Pre-Shipment Inspections: Ensuring Quality and Peace of Mind

At Secure Scan Inspection, we understand the critical importance of quality control in safeguarding your brand and bottom line. Pre-shipment inspections (PSI) are a key component of our comprehensive quality control services, designed to protect against the cost, disruption, and damage caused by sub-standard goods

What is a Pre-Shipment Inspection?

A pre-shipment inspection is a thorough examination conducted near the completion of production. This inspection offers a final opportunity to identify and address any quality issues before the goods are dispatched. Accredited inspection agencies like ours perform these inspections when production is at least 80% complete, ensuring that the goods meet all required standards.

Key Purposes of Pre-Shipment Inspection

  1. Peace of Mind: Assures importers that they will receive the right quantity and quality of goods.
  2. Quality Assurance: Confirms that specific quality requirements are met through customizable checks.
  3. Packaging Verification: Ensures that packaging is correct and suitable for transport.
  4. Certification: Issues certificates for import and billing purposes when required by customs.
  5. Producer Assurance: Some producers request inspections to provide quality assurance to their customers.

What Do Inspectors Look For?

Our inspectors follow a detailed procedure, adapted for different importers, suppliers, and types of merchandise. Upon completion, a comprehensive report is provided, allowing importers to decide whether to accept or reject the order.

Quantity Verification

Inspectors count products and shipping cartons to verify the correct quantity. At least 80% of the order must be finished and packed to pass. Additional details such as unfinished or semi-finished quantities are also noted.

Packaging Quality

Packaging is checked to ensure it meets client specifications. This includes examining inner and outer packaging, export carton markings, dimensions, and weight. Inspectors also check for the presence of vent holes and mold prevention units when appropriate

Quality Verification

The most critical part of the inspection is reviewing workmanship quality. This involves following standardized checkpoints tailored to the product type and destination market, and can be customized according to specific quality requirements.

General Conformity to Specifications

Using client-provided samples and specifications, inspectors check for:

  • Color
  • Construction and materials
  • Product dimensions
  • Artwork and labels

Detailed results for each inspected product are provided in the report, including checks of artwork and labels for quality, spelling, fonts, colors, dimensions, positioning, and alignment.

Product-Specific Tests

Inspections are customizable, allowing for specific checks related to particular products. Functional and some safety tests can also be carried out, although comprehensive safety tests often require laboratory conditions.

Reporting Procedure

Once the inspection is complete, a detailed report is compiled with a pass/fail result, an overview of key findings, a detailed account of the inspection results, and supporting pictures. This report is released on the same day as the inspection, ensuring prompt decision-making.
